Many excellent works from the first half of the nineteenth century have fallen out of print- not always because they have fallen out of fashion. In this Kevin Mayhew Ensemble Series, the best of these masters have been circulated once more and it is hoped that they will give as much pleasure as they undoubtedly did in their day!
The flute quartet was a popular combination from around the 1770s; many fine examples existed by J.C Bach, Michael Haydn, Mozart, Vanhal, Playel and Reicha. This particular quartet was probably written in the early 1820s by which time Dotzauer was an experienced composer of chamber music
Difficulty level, roughly compared to ABRSM exam grades. 0 is beginner, 9 is advanced (beyond grade 8).
