Our Description

Even at Mozart's time, it was very popular to write chamber music arrangements of operas. The two arrangements presented here were presumably written by the flutist August Eberhard Müller (1767 - 1817) who held the post of choirmaster-organist at St. Thomas' Church in Leipzig and who also advised Constanze Mozart on musical issues after Mozart's death. The arrangements are closely linked to the original score and the instruments were skillfully reduced to five. In order to emphasize the character of Janissary music even more, the overture to the "Abduction" can be augmented by a triangle (triangle part is enclosed).

Difficulty guide: 8

Editor's Choice
These two books (in one publication) of operatic works for flute and strings are really good. They are as far as possible transcriptions rather than arrangements and so the flute doesn't hog all the tunes. I'm sure that lots of players will have a great deal of fun with these as they are ideally suited to informal music making. The editions have a great clarity, the print quality is excellent and the price is very good. There's even a triangle part for Seraglio!
