“Wistful music for flute and harp”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

The inspiration for each of these three wistful pieces is completely different but they all started out as  improvisations. The first, written in response to a close bereavement, meanders gently with both parts sharing the melodic line. In the Edge of Water is more settled, as a simple tune is accompanied by flowing quavers, Spring Rain sees a little more action with a busier flute part and a greater range of notes for both instruments. Each movement could stand alone and would make a very good introduction for two students as their first experience of playing together. It will also appeal to those who like flute and harp music to be calm and soothing!

From the Publisher

Louis Anthony deLise's Passaggio for Flute and Harp was written for flutist Joan Sparks and harpist Anne Sullivan. The compositions included in this suite are arrangements of solo piano pieces by deLise which began as improvisations, including “Early January,” “In the Edge of the Water,” and “Spring Rain.”

Though originally composed for flute and pedal harp, included in this edition are lever harp arrangements of the first two movements. The third movement, being completely diatonic, is suitable on both pedal and lever harp.
