“Good to play!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

This is an interesting flute choir piece which creates a varied colour world by expert voicing of the instruments used. The parts all look straightforward and there is some doubling of the lines to help the ensemble. However, pairings such as piccolo and bass add texture to the rhythmic simplicity and make this piece really good to play. The title is fully realised too which is an added bonus!

From the Publisher

Awakening for flute choir and percussion is an exciting new work commissioned by the South Shore Conservatory Flute Symphony. Full of rhythmic vitality and color, it explores a wide range of flute techniques while at the same time remaining accessible to performers and audience alike. The composer wrote Awakening thinking of the evolvement of a new idea, exploring it and finally incorporating it into one's life. The Nashua Flute Choir choreographed this piece with a ballet group! It is scored for piccolo, 8 C flutes, alto, bass, and vibraphone/percussion.
