This book is part of the Jazz Method for Flute Series and comes with an accompanying CD. Jazz books specifically for the flute are rare and this one is really very informative. In addition to the standard tunes with and without improvisation there is much material that can be used by all players of varying standards. For example there are accompaniments on the CD to major and minor scales and arpeggios plus other chords and variations which are to played a tone lower in sequence without a break - very good practise for everyone (especially me!). There are tables of modes, chords and trill fingerings and exercises for singing and playing, flutter-tonguing and lip glissandi, all of which can be incorporated into the music. The vibrato demo is worth a listen and there is plenty of reading material as well. The photographs of jazz flute players are very interesting and you even get a performance of some Bach!
