“An underrated composer”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - chrish@justflutes.com

Hahn is not always at the forefront of the mind when thinking about great French flute repertoire but these two beautiful vignettes may well convince you of his merits. The style is not always immediate and certainly the key of 7 flats in 'Danse pour une Deesse' is possibly not a good start. Try it though and you will uncover a little gem which weaves it's way around a chordal accompaniment. Unsettling changes of time add to the feeling of uneasiness. L'Enchanteuer is a wonderful little dance, not too fast but contrasting a strong rhythmic motif with leggiero triplet quavers that skip along effectively. Not to be missed!
