More About Me
Born in 1991 James Wilson studied with Karin de Fleyt at the University of Leeds and Dr Martyn Shaw at Leeds College of Music.
James has participated in masterclasses with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet, Wissam Boustany, Belinda Gough, Kevin Gowland-Mahon, Kate Hill, Mike Mower, and Ian Mullin. He was a previous beneficiary of the Oxford Flute Summer School Bursary.
As a soloist James has premiered Ambrose Field’s Quantaform Series I-XX, and has performed Dai Fujikura’s Poison Mushroom and Robert Bentall’s Illegal to Die for Nonclassical. His arrangement of Fauré’s Pavane for flute and string quartet has been performed live on BBC Radio 4.
Awards include the East Coast Young Musician of the Year, Harrogate Competitive Festival for Music, Speech and Drama, and the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival.
James has contributed two articles to the British Flute Society journal.
He is a Fellow of the Victoria College of Music in flute teaching.
