Carla Rees is a UK based low flutes specialist who has developed an international reputation for her innovative work. She is Artistic Director of contemporary chamber ensemble rarescale and Music Programme Leader at the Open College of the Arts. She is teaches the flute at Royal Holloway University of London and at London College of Music. Carla plays Kingma System quartertone flutes made by Eva Kingma and Bickford Brannen.
Carla performs as a recitalist and chamber musician in the UK and internationally, including most recently at Festivals in the UK, Canada, USA, Costa Rica, France and Slovenia. Recent performance highlights include with pianist John Tilbury and the RTE Vanburgh Quartet, as well as appearances with rarescale and as a soloist, including the premieres of two new concertos for alto flute.
Carla has recorded five discs for rarescale records, as well as for Atopos, Capstone and Metier, and appears on incidental music for film, TV and radio.
