The Andersen Etude Practice Book
- Interesting, worth a look
- Great for teachers
From the Publisher
In this edition, I have suggested specific purposes for practising each etude, and in some cases presented easier and more difficult opuses to develop a particular skill. For this reason, I propse that this collection of etudes be studied in the present order, organized around specific technical and musical goals. Help is offered in finding melodies and musical sense in what seem at first like repetetive exercises.
The Andersen Etude Practice Book is a teacher as well as student's guide to mining the riches of each of these well-crafted etudes. Drawn from a variety of Andersen opuses, this annotated edition was created to help performer and teacher find, practice, and hear the melodies of the etudes. With a focus on breathing, articulation and rubato implicit in 19th century style combined with contemporary techniques, this way of practicing can help a student think outside the regular parameters the function of an etude in each and every lesson.
