The 'Andante' for flute and orchestra (K.315) was presumably written early in 1778, when Mozart was staying in Mannheim. A wealthy Dutch, amateur by the name of De Jean had then commissioned him with several pieces for flute, the best-known of which is the Concerto in G (K.313). The Andante is scored for 2 oboes, 2 horns, and strings.
