Our Description

Symphony No. 8 forms a wonderful bridge between the Baroque and Classical periods. It has all four movements of the later symphonies of Haydn and Mozart, and several movements are in sonata form. From the Baroque aide, it retains the use of continuo (harpsichord), occasional counterpoint, and most important for us here, it employs a dance, in this case a gigue, as the basic style of the first movement. It is scored for piccolo, 4 C flutes, alto & bass flute.

Difficulty guide: 6
