“Quirky quintet!”

This is a quirky quintet from Cecilia McDowall which has great instrumental colouring. It opens with a robust Allegro which has strong rhythms and angular intervals from the outset. Winter has really arrived! The calmer middle section has a gentle syncopated accompaniment to support the melody. The Andante titled The Farewell is dark and brooding but the Allegro Scherzando soon dispels the gloom with a lively 6/8 which is hopeful of the arrival of Spring. Quirky and quintessential!
