Educational Try Before You Buy Scheme

Why use our rental scheme?

For many parents, the initial outlay of a really good quality instrument can persuade them away from buying one, usually because they are unsure whether their child will stick at it.

Low quality instruments - which are within easy financial reach - are usually a false economy (see our article here). Better quality instruments, on the other hand, are easier to play, more reliable, and have a better re-sale value. A good instrument can really encourage a beginner when they're starting out, while bad instruments are often harder to play and can be demoralising - not what your child needs.

Our scheme means that your child can try an instrument to see whether it's what they want to play, without having to commit to a purchase. All instruments on our rental scheme are made by major manufacturers who are known for their excellent quality and design.

Please read our advice on buying cheap musical instruments...

How does the scheme work?

Try Before You BuyAll instruments on our rental scheme are brand new and fully set up in our workshop, to ensure that your child gets the best possible start. After your child has tried the instrument to see how they get on, you have the option of buying. This scheme is open to anyone aged 18 and under and in full-time education.

To get started, you make an initial payment which covers a four month period, including insurance and maintenance. At the end of this four months, you can either purchase the instrument, return it to us, or try it again for another four months.

  • If you decide to return it, that's fine - just bring or send the instrument back to us with no hassle.
  • If you decide to buy it, great! We'll give you a discount off our normal shop price, and the instrument becomes yours!
  • If you choose to try it again, the payment for the next four months is the same as it was for the the first four months. At the end of this period, you will need to decide whether to purchase (with a further discount) or return the instrument. Our scheme runs for a maximum of 8 months

† Except agreements for the Jupiter JFL313S "Prodigy" flute, which are on a "rolling rental". After you have rented for a minimum of 8 months, you qualify for a 10% discount off a Jupiter JFL515ES flute.
