Our Description
P Mauriat saxophones have been causing a stir on the internet (see the Sax On The Web forum for an idea of what people are saying) and we had to see what all the fuss was about! These saxophones play freely from top to bottom, and the PMXA67R model has a big rich sound in the vintage American tradition. This plays stunningly well, and is truly in a different class to other saxes at this price level. Combine with a Vandoren Java, Selmer S80 C* or for more punch, Yanagisawa metal mouthpiece, and any of the above with a BG ligature for a great sounding horn.
Manufacturer's Description
"This model plays with a very warm, dark sound quality not often found in any modern soprano. This Custom Class "Vintage Series" soprano features dark brushed "antiqued" lacquer, bent and straight necks, and high F# key. These have a nice full rich tone with excellent intonation. These sopranos are among the best, but at a much better price...a lot of horn for the money. Very good playing soprano with a very dark, warm sound quality.
"Compared with the System-76 Soprano, The PMSS-64 soprano has many of the same characteristics of the System 76, but with has a fatter sound - yet it is still free-blowing with consistent response and intonation from the lowest note to the highest."
Review of the PMSS-64 from Andy Brush
"The first thing I noticed about this horn was how light it is!! This made me think that it would maybe have a thinner sound than my silver plate Selmer SA80 series 2. I was wrong….. the sound of the PMSS 64 has a fat, dark resonance that fills the room. The intonation is amazing as in every Mauriat saxophone. >From low Bb to high F# and beyond, the response is incredible. The keywork has a light action which makes fast 16th note runs effortless. I have tried all of the top brands of soprano on the market and this horn beats them all hands down! It looks fantastic with the antique finish and can meet all the demands of a professional quality horn. Looks like I have another Selmer for sale!!"
